Bearspaw properties tend to have a lot of trees: shelterbelts planted decades ago, native aspen groves, and spruce that have grown right up to the house. Over time that means dead trees in the rows, limbs over driveways and outbuildings, and trees that have simply outgrown their spot.
The work here is often a mix of removal, clearance pruning and thinning, planned so the property keeps its shelter and privacy. Lifting the lower branches of conifers and keeping trees back from buildings also follows Alberta's FireSmart guidance for treed properties.

Yes. Dead and failing trees can be taken out of a shelterbelt while the healthy ones are left standing, and the brush is chipped on site. It is also a good time to look at whether the remaining rows need thinning or pruning, and whether any gaps are worth replanting to keep the shelter.
