Made safe first, then cleared

Regular hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and emergency calls are taken on weekends and after hours. A storm damaged tree is often under tension, with limbs hung up in other branches or loaded against a structure, which is what makes it dangerous to cut without training.

The first job is making the situation safe. After that the damaged tree or limbs are taken down in a controlled way, the debris is chipped and cleared, and you get an honest opinion on whether the rest of the tree can stay.

What should I do if a tree falls on my house?

Get everyone out of the damaged area and stay clear of the tree. If it is on or touching a power line, stay at least 10 metres back and call 911 and your utility. If you smell gas, leave and call 911. Otherwise call Silver Fern, and do not try to cut a loaded tree yourself.

Do you do emergency tree removal on weekends?

Yes. Regular hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and emergency calls are taken on weekends and after hours. Storm damage, a failed limb or a tree that has come down where it should not be is exactly what after-hours calls are for. Describe what has happened and where the tree is.

Can a tree be checked before it becomes an emergency?

Yes, and it is the better option. Signs worth having looked at include a new lean, cracks in the trunk, fungus at the base, dead branches over a roof or driveway, and trees growing close to power lines. A consultation tells you what is a real risk and what can wait, and the estimate is free.
